1. Preparation
Hardware requirements:
- Computer (Windows NT4 or higher, COM port or USB to serial adapter required).
- Connection cable: TK212 3BSC630167R2) or TK212A 3BSC630197R1.
- CI840 module and base board (TU846/TU847), 24V power supply required.
Connection steps:
1. Connect the Dsub9 end of the cable to the computer COM port and the RJ45 end to the Service Port A/B of the base board (corresponding to module position A or B).
2. Online upgrade (redundant system)
Notes:
- Before upgrading, check the module redundancy status (via Control Builder OnLine) to ensure that there are no communication errors (such as "Cable A error").
- Always upgrade on the backup module.
- After upgrading, wait for the status to return to normal before performing the master-slave switch (via DTM or disconnecting the corresponding Profibus cable).
3. Read the software version
- Use a terminal program (such as Hyperterminal) to set the communication parameters: 9600bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
- Restart CI840 (loosen and retighten the locking screw at intervals of 5 seconds).
- Wait for about 30 seconds, the terminal will display the current version (such as "CI840 SW 3.0/0").
4. Upgrade the software version
Upgrade steps:
- Use the tool `loader32.exe` and select manual configuration of the COM port.
- Select the firmware file and click "Download".
- Key operation: Loosen the locking screw within 10 seconds after pressing "Download", wait for 5 seconds and then retighten it.
- The module automatically restarts after the upgrade is completed (the LEDs are all on for about 30 seconds).
- Verify the version and update the module label.
5. Common problems and solutions
- If the upgrade fails:
The Bootloader version is displayed instead of the SW version. You need to restart the module and try again.
- If the diagnostics are wrong:
When upgrading from an old version (such as 4.1/1) to 4.2/1+, a "Report diagnostics fault" may be reported. This can be solved by cold restarting the system or modifying the "Power supervision" parameters and then hot downloading.
Note: Hot download is not applicable to CI854 modules (firmware lower than version 5.62).
Key tips: Strictly follow the time window operation (such as loosening the screw within 10 seconds) to avoid failure due to timeout!
